Serving the Swannanoa Valley since 1936
Serving the Swannanoa Valley since 1936
Leaving a Legacy is a beautiful way to thank God for His bountiful blessings, in our personal lives, and to our parish. Endowments help to ensure the work of the parish for futures generations, and with God's grace, for another 100 years!
In today’s environment, planned gifts are more important than ever. A thoughtfully planned legacy gift offers a chance to not only be remembered for your generosity and commitment to the Church, but potentially provides tax benefits for your estate and/or heirs.
A gift through your will, or other estate plans, lets you continue to support your parish into the future!

The Doris Thibodeau Endowment
Doris was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary for over
11 years. She attended Mass regularly, and was a GREAT steward who understood the importance of leaving a legacy to the parish she loved.
Doris was born on July 28, 1932. Shortly after her birth, her family moved from Brooklyn, to Nova Scotia where Doris lived for 20 years. She attended Mt. St. Vincent where she earned a BA and BS Degree in Library Science. With these in hand, Doris moved to Santa Clara, California where she remained for three years working as a Librarian.
A yen to see the world moved Doris to join the American Red Cross in Korea and France. For years she worked Recreation Services, and later with the Army Special Services as a civilian Librarian.
After returning to the U.S., Doris enrolled in Western Reserve University where , in 1967, was awarded her MS Degree in Library Science, specializing in the history of medicine, and rare books. For the final 20 years of her career, she worked as a librarian at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore.
Upon retirement, Doris moved to Asheville. She loved the social and cultural attractions, and took advantage of the many fine hiking trails in our mountains. A woman of diverse interests, Doris enjoyed the opera, theater, reading, golf, and spiritual activities, to name a few. In addition to employment abroad, Doris traveled extensively in Europe and the Far East, visiting Japan eight times!
Doris loved living in Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain, and she loved her parish family at St. Margaret Mary.
Doris died October 18, 2021, but her legacy lives on.
